The Titus County Historical Commission
CEMETERY COMMITTEE - Paul Lindsey is Chair of the Cemetery Committee. The Cemetery Committee's purpose is to preserve Titus County's historic cemeteries that do not have associations to care for them, to assist established cemeteries that wish to obtain a Historic Texas Cemetery Designation or Texas Historical Marker through the Texas Historical Commission, and to provide other services geared toward preserving and caring for Titus County cemeteries.
The Cemetery Committee also hopes to establish a county-wide cemetery association to care for small cemeteries who no longer have living relatives or an association to care for them.
The Titus County Historical Commission (TCHC) is a branch of Titus County government that is sanctioned by the Texas Historic Commission for the purpose of preserving and cataloging historical artifacts, documents, and structures within Titus County for future generations.
The TCHC also works to preserve the county's cemeteries and to assist eligible local cemeteries in obtaining a Historic Texas Cemetery designation or Historical Marker for their cemetery.
Anyone with an interest in Titus County History can join the TCHC, but members must be approved by the County Judge and Titus County Commissioner's Court. Members names must be submitted to the Texas Historic Commission, which can be done only in odd-numbered years. The TCHC meets in various locations around the county to make it easier for interested residents to attend.
