Aerial Photos of Mount Pleasant
Robert & Mary Turner's A Glimpse of Titus County, Texas History
This group of "aerial" photos was taken from Mt. Pleasant's south water tower on
March 19, 1977.
AP-0041 Shows the intersection of South Madison Street (up to down) and West Ferguson Road (left to right).  Bodacious Bar-B-Q is located on the right side of the intersection, Manley Moore Texaco service station was located on the left side of the intersection in this photo.  Vehicles in the lower part of the photo are part of the Donnie Keck Ford dealership display lot.
AP-0043 is a wider shot of the same intersection and shows both South Madison Street and the railroad running north to south (top to bottom).  Guaranty Bank was still located on the square.  The back of their building (the red building in the upper left of the photo) is visible, and trees and small buildings are located on the lot immediately south of the bank where their present building is now located.

AP-0044 is another shot of downtown.  Manley Moore's Texaco and a mobile home sales lot next door is visible in the lower left edge of the photo.  Hotel Stephens is viisible under the "i" in "history".  American National Bank had not been constructed yet.  It is now located where South Madison Street angles to the left in this photo.  Likewise, the Titus County Jail had not been constructed, but you can see several small buildings that were previously located on the site were it was built in the mid-left side of this photo.
AP-0077 shows a view to the west side of South Madison Street.  The west end of the mobile home sales lot located west of Manley Moore Texaco is visible at the bottom of the photo, as is a small part of West Ferguson Road at the bottom left edge.  The pointed white building below ".com" is Brookshire's Food Store, which was destroyed by fire a few years later.
AP-0059 shows the area immediately north of the intersection of Ferguson Road, Texas Highway 49, and South Jefferson Street.  Ferguson Road runs along the bottom right side of the photo, the train track along the left corner.  The red dot at the right side of the photo is the Dairy Queen awning.  The Mt. Pleasant Housing Authority is in the center of the photo.
Jefferson Park Shopping Center is shown in the lower part of AP-0051.   The sand foundation pad has been cleared to extend the south end of the shopping center, but the buildings have not been built.  The roofs of two completed buildings are visible at the bottom of the photo.  South Jefferson Street is visible in the lower left corner of the photo.  In 1977, it was lined with residences and a few businesses which were mostly concentrated around the shopping center and at the top of the hill near East Holland Street.
AP-0050 shows a view of the Jefferson Park Shopping Center parking lot and South Jefferson Street.  The South Jefferson Church of Christ is shown in the left side of the photo.
AP-0062 is a view looking west toward the refinery.  Martin Luther King Street is visible above "titushistory.com", and Francis Corprew Elementary School is visible at the lower right corner of the photo.
AP-0075 is also looking west.  Ferguson Road is visible at the right edge of the picture.  West Arizona Street is seen from the left edge to the center of the photo from the point shortly after it crosses West Ferguson Road.
AP-0063 is another view looking toward the west of the same section of town.  Parts of the refinery are visible immediately below "titushistory.com"
