Page 2 - Ladies in The Great Depression Ladies played a major part in feeding their families during the Great Depression by making clothing and home-canning garden-grown produce to feed and clothe the family.
Page 4 - The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) This is an entire section, not a single article. The Civilian Conservation Corps program was part of Roosevelt's "New Deal" to provide employment to boys and young men (and later girls and young women) who could not obtain work elsewhere and whose families were on welfare. The young people did honorable work on public works projects that greatly assisted their communities and others.
Titus County was home to a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp, located 1 mile north of Mt. Pleasant on the old Paris Road. One mile north of Mt. Pleasant on the Old Paris Road in 1935 is now the water tower on North Edwards Street. We have posted a compilation of local newspaper articles describing the Civilian Conservation Corps in Titus County from 1935-1942 which you can read to learn more about their local activities.
