A Plat of CCC Camp # 2286
Mr. Billy Hammonds joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1940 after quitting school at age 15 because he needed to earn money, which was common for many boys in that day. He sketched the Mt. Pleasant CCC Camp's general layout shown in the map below from his recollections of the camp.
The map is not to scale, but provides a general representation of the camp's layout.
During the C.C.C. Camp's existence, the area was a rural area one mile north of Mt. Pleasant on the Old Paris Road. There was very little development there, and the area west of the camp's laundry, latrine, and showers was still a corn field.
We used a modern map of the area as a base so that the plat will more meaningful to visitors in relation to the area's present landmarks. Streets, parks, and other items shown in pink did not exist in the 1930s.
