Titus County, Texas History - Historical Roster of the Mount Pleasant Fire Department

The historical roster below lists members of the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department whose surnames begin with letters M-Z. The roster contains all that we could document, but is incomplete due to some missing and inconsistent historic records. Dates of service begin in the 1904 organizational meeting minute book, and names were then added from all other sources available, including fire department meeting minutes, run books, and the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department's current (2007) files regarding membership.

The list is the most complete that we could compile from available historic and current records. Historic records are very incomplete and inconsistent. Source documents needed to research many years were apparently destroyed and are not available for research. In other documents, men were sometimes listed only by first name, at other times only by surname. It becomes very confusing when trying to track two men across several years of overlapping service that were known to have the same first or last name. Therefore, while the following list is the most complete historic list available, we cannot guarantee that some people who once served were not unintentionally omitted due to those inconsistencies, or that their service periods may not be incorrect due to name confusion in the records.

Starting and ending dates are as accurate as we could compile from the information available, but we know some entries are incorrect. Some men began their service as volunteers, then became full-time, paid engineers after gaining experience as a volunteer. We noted volunteers who later became full-time Engineers or officers, who are City employees. These members remained members of the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department longer than the End Date shown, but were not listed in fire run logs after becoming paid City employees. Since they became regular City employees, the correct End Date of their service would be contained in the City's confidential employee records, which we did not try to research.
