Titus County Spanish-American War Volunteers - (Photo WT-0001)

A group of Titus County volunteers for service in the Spanish-American war gather to have their photo taken on the Titus County Court House square in approximately 1897-1898.  United States Army officers, in blue uniforms at the left side of this photo, join the Titus County volunteers.

Scott Hays has done an excellent job of publishing information about the Greenhill Church and Cemetery in Titus County  on his website.

Scott listed Titus County veterans that are buried in the Greenhill Cemetery by conflict name.

Editor's Note:  Many volumes have been written about each conflict that the United States has participated in from the Civil War to Iraq.  Each subject has been covered in both factual and fictional works in print, movies, television, and on the internet.  Many high quality works covering every aspect of each conflict's causes, battles, and effects are readily available.

Therefore, see no reason to re-write the history of each conflict, since this has already been done by people with much more knowledge and much larger budgets than ours.  Instead, we will provide as much information as we can regarding how each conflict affected Titus County citizens, since local information is not as available from other sources.

We have also decided, at least for now, to restrict our coverage of military action to the Civil War, World War I, and World War II.  This is not intended to lessen the honor due anyone who served our country in other military actions, but due to limited website space we decided to limit coverage to conflicts where activities like rationing, blood drives, scrap drives, and other things to support the nation's war efforts were conducted in Titus County.  While many Titus County people served in other military actions, and some made the ultimate sacrifice while doing so for which we are vey grateful, there was little or no activity in Titus County itself related to these conflicts.  We hope to be able to cover Titus County people who stood out among their peers in military service for various reasons, like receiving exceptionally high honors or distinguishing themselves in other ways.

If you have photographs, documents, or other memoribilia pertaining to Titus County in the Civil War, World War I, or World War II, please contact use.  We would like to present as much information as possible about Titus County's involvement in these conflicts.
